TSI Assessment

The TSI Assessment is a college readiness test delivered through the Accuplacer system, specifically designed by the College Board to meet the requirements set forth by the Texas Legislature and the Texas Higher Education Coordinating Board (THECB).

Effective 2013 August 26, no other assessment tests will be used to satisfy the Texas Success Initiative (TSI) requirements for college readiness.

Test scores achieved prior to this date will still satisfy TSI requirements.

Pre-Assessment Activity

Every examinee who takes the TSI Assessment must complete a Pre-Assessment Activity (PAA) before taking the TSI test.

Demonstrating College Readiness

The following minimum cut scores will meet the TSI standard, which will demonstrate college readiness and allow registration into college-level coursework in that subject area:

TSI Math Placement: 350

TSI Reading Placement: 351

Meeting the TSI standard for writing will require either

A score of 5 or better on the WritePlacer (essay); or

A score of 4 on the WritePlacer combined with a score of 363 or better on the Writing Placement (multiple-choice) test.

Advanced Placement for Math

If the examinee demonstrates at least college readiness level in math, the College Math section (Accuplacer) will be administered automatically.

A score of 86-102 will merit placement into:

MATH 1317 (Plane Trigonometry),

MATH 1329 (Mathematics for Business and Economics II), or

MATH 2417 (Pre-Calculus Mathematics)

A score of 103 or higher will merit placement into:
